Information we collect

We collect information you share with us directly and data that is generated while you use TransitHow. This includes account details (username, email address, hashed password), transit listings and tips you submit, communications you send to us, and log data (browser, device, IP address, and interaction timestamps) that helps us keep the platform secure.

How we use information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the TransitHow platform and its community features.
  • Moderate user-contributed content and surface the most helpful listings.
  • Send important notices such as account verification, security alerts, and feature updates.
  • Analyze aggregated usage trends to plan new features and prevent abuse.

Advertising & analytics (Google AdSense)

TransitHow displays ads provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) and device identifiers to serve personalized or contextual ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can learn more or opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's advertising policies and Ads Settings.

We partner with analytics providers to measure engagement and detect fraudulent activity. These partners receive pseudonymous information such as hashes, coarse location, and browser metadata.

Cookies & similar technologies

We use first-party cookies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure aggregated performance. You can normally disable or remove cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of TransitHow may not function correctly without them.

How we share information

  • Public content you submit (such as system listings) is visible to all visitors.
  • Service providers that help us operate the platform (hosting, analytics, advertising) receive only the data they need.
  • We may disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or with your explicit consent.

Your choices and rights

You can edit or delete the content you contribute, update your account information, and request to close your account at any time. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights such as requesting a copy of your data or asking us to erase it. Contact us if you need help exercising these rights.

Data retention & security

We retain account data for as long as you have an active account, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes. We employ encryption, access controls, monitoring, and regular backups to protect your information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Children

TransitHow is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete that data promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect operational, legal, or regulatory changes. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, when appropriate, provide additional notice.
